Gaius Julius Caesar (100/99–44 BC) was a Roman general, statesman, and author whose campaigns transformed the late Republic. His first-person commentaries on the Gallic and Civil Wars combine military narrative, political justification, and remarkably controlled Latin prose. Jerome’s Caesar corpus contains the canonical public records of both wars.
