Macrobius was a Latin author probably active in the early fifth century AD, when elite Roman culture was being reorganized under Christian imperial rule. His Saturnalia presents learned conversations about literature, religion, language, and Roman antiquity, while his commentary on Cicero’s Dream of Scipio transmits Neoplatonic cosmology and numerological learning. Jerome preserves the Saturnalia.
