Publius Vergilius Maro (70–19 BC), known as Virgil, was the central Latin poet of the Augustan period. The Eclogues, Georgics, and Aeneid move from pastoral and agricultural poetry to an epic account of origins, duty, loss, and Roman destiny. Jerome represents the three major poetic works in its public corpus.
