Petronius is the traditional author of the Satyricon, a fragmentary Latin prose narrative usually associated with the court of Nero. The surviving sections combine episodic travel, comic excess, social caricature, and shifts between prose and verse, most famously in the banquet of Trimalchio. Jerome preserves the canonical public record of the novel.
