Publius Papinius Statius (c. 45–after 96 AD) was a Roman poet of the Flavian age. His Thebaid turns the conflict between Eteocles and Polynices into a large-scale epic of civil violence and inherited curse, while the Achilleid treats the education and concealment of Achilles. Jerome preserves both canonical epics.
