Thucydides (c. 460–400 BC) was an Athenian historian and participant in the Peloponnesian War. His history explains the conflict through speeches, strategic analysis, political calculation, and an effort to distinguish durable causes from immediate events. The work is a foundational example of critical historical prose and is represented in Jerome.
